WORCESTER — Tanner Houck got the chance to pitch in front of a packed Polar Park for the first time on Thursday night.
“Having a guy like that around, one of the top five pitchers in the game right now, in my opinion, I love getting to talk to him and I love getting to learn from him,” Houck said.
“Just stuff we talk about on a normal day-to-day basis,” Houck said.
He said he used all of his pitches: four-seamer, two-seamer, slider, and splitter, though he threw the splitter just once.
“I’ve been truly pushing myself while I’ve had this time off both on and off the field.
It’s in the repertoire and it needs to continue to develop,” Houck said.
“I haven’t gone that far into looking into the program, I was just excited to show up today and be able to get to play in the game,” Houck said.
Weber made seven appearances, six of those starts, for the WooSox this season, posting a 4.63 ERA in 35 innings.
The other pitcher the Red Sox recently designated for assignment, Brandon Brennan, was back with the team Wednesday in the bullpen as he was outrighted to Worcester.
