I love how they are very clearly stating how they feel about this woman and how they love her, but using barbecue as a way to talk about it.
For a minute, it felt like Issa and Lawrence were really done, but recent episodes have shown that he is still sticking around in her subconscious.
I mean, we’ll obviously see how the finale plays out, but I think as much as she wants to move on—and I do think she’s happy with Nathan in a lot of ways—I think there’s still so many unanswered questions about what the relationship with Lawrence could have been.
They are both like, ‘Yo, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be with this woman.’ I think that’s something we don’t get to see a lot of.
So to get here five years later, this has been a hell of a journey, and it’s been such an honor to be one spec of what it is to be a Black man in this country and to get to show his journey.
For a show that is about Issa and Molly, these two black girls in LA, to be able to give the space that they’ve given to Lawrence and tell the perspective of this story from a male point of view is a dream.
I have people that I’ve worked with for six years now that I love, and I’m going to see them on their birthdays, and taking trips with them.
