“I know where the team is at with the salary cap and everything, and I’ll be honest, all I care about is playing on a good team and just trying to win, so if I could take less, I would,” Spezza said.
“My kids are getting older, I’ve got an 11-year-old, 9, 7 and 5, and the discipline they showed this year, not complaining, being in and out of school, and their friends were able to have play dates, but because of the protocols we were under, they really saw nobody all year.
“Knowing that next year will be more normal hopefully for us as a team and not having to have such strict protocols, because that was a concern for them, to be away from their friends that long.
“Maybe I’m delusional, but I think I can get better and I’m going to try to improve on last season,” Spezza said.
Selected by Ottawa with the No.
I’m just going to play the game, try to win hockey games so we can have fun coming to the rink.
