South Jersey business ordered to stop ‘gifting’ free marijuana to customers

1 cannabis gifting service, delivers sweets like brownies and cookies and “treeats” to customers across the state within 48 hours.

Along with cookies and brownies, Slumped Kitchen LLC also sells “snack packs” and “munchie packs” that start at $150, according to the state’s cease-and-desist letter.

Slumped Kitchen LLC is now under investigation for violating the state’s Consumer Fraud Act, which prohibits unauthorized business practices, misrepresentation and deception in the marketplace.

Each misrepresentation in the sale or advertising of business constitutes a separate violation under the Consumer Fraud Act.

The scheme of “gifting” marijuana products to customers alongside the purchase of a snack or baked goods at an expensive price has become popular in other states and Washington, D.C.

The CRC has not yet adopted rules for the licensing of adult-use cannabis retailers or issued any licenses to such businesses, including Slumped Kitchen LLC.

The new marijuana legislation gave municipalities 180 days to reinstate their bans of cannabis sales at the local level before falling under the jurisdiction of the state law.

Residents and visitors to Wildwood Crest are now prohibited from using cannabis products in public spaces such as parks and recreational areas.
