As of 9:17 am, the Sensex was up 411 points or 0.81% at 59,787.07 while the NSE benchmark Nifty was higher by 124.15 points or 0.70% at 17,795.80.
Among Nifty stocks, Bharti Airtel was the top gainer, up 5.33% followed by Tata Steel and Axis Bank, which gained 2.69% and 1.53% respectively.
UPL was the top loser in Nifty, down 4.83% following its Q2 announcement on Friday as traders resort to profit booking in the counter after the recent rally.
Foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth Rs 5,142.6 crore in cash market on Friday while domestic investors bought shares worth Rs 4,342.5 crore in the cash segment.
Japan’s Nikkei was up 2.30%, Australia’s ASX was higher by 0.63%, China’s Shanghai Composite rose 0.07%, Taiwan Weighted advanced 0.44%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.24%.
