“It was recognized early on that it was a pretty monumental day for the CFL,” the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ president-CEO said shortly after the CFL’s board of governors voted unanimously to return to play in early August.
The original blueprint of the schedule included an opening day of June 10, with the customary 18-game slate.
Now that the long-awaited 9-0 vote has taken place, players are to report for training camps July 2, whereupon a quarantine will take place.
“I think there’s a little bit of a sense that things might be returning back to normal,” Reynolds said.
“We had our meeting of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ board on Friday, because the reality is that the club will sustain significant financial losses to play the 2021 season, and a shortened season,” Reynolds noted.
“To everyone involved in making morning feel like Christmas morning, thank you,” quarterback Cody Fajardo wrote on Twitter.
