Review: ‘The Choir of Man’ brings joy of live performance back to Playhouse Square

The nine-man cast, accompanied by a four-man band, is playing before audiences of 25% capacity for the first month of the run, through July 11.

He pointed out something that most of us probably don’t think about: The word “pub” is short for public house.

The show, conceived by Andrew Kay and Nic Doodson in the United Kingdom in 2017, normally invites audience members on stage for a beer and a dance.

Yes, these are handsome blokes, as advertised.

And boy, can these guys sing.

These performers are experts at involving the audience, getting them clapping and singing back on songs including “I’m Gonna Be .” In this number, cute “Piano Man” Ali Higgins tries do his slower, mellow take on the well-known tune by The Proclaimers.

“Choir of Man” has toured to Playhouse Square twice before, in 2018 and 2020, but this gig is bound to be the group’s most memorable time in Cleveland.
