Ranking Giants’ 25 most important players: No. 25 is a RB that might need to fill in for Saquon Barkley in Week 1

Right as free agency kicked off, the Giants didn’t sign a wide receiver, a tight end or an offensive lineman.

How he did in 2020: Booker was the primary backup to Josh Jacobs with the Las Vegas Raiders last year, and he was relatively productive in that role.

Why he’s important: Simply put, the Giants just don’t know yet what version of Saquon Barkley they’re going to get coming off an ACL injury that cost him all but two games last season.

Right now, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if Booker is the starter to open the season, though that’s entirely dependent on how much progress Barkley makes in his rehab.

The Giants have upgraded the running back room in general, adding veteran Corey Clement, rookie Gary Brightwell and Jaguars castoff Ryquell Armstead.

He said it: “Well, one of the reasons we prioritized Devontae is you can never have too many good players at any position, I don’t care what anybody says.
