Patriots mailbag: After Bill Belichick’s wild free agency, how good can we expect the front seven to be?

Though Cam Newton’s offense drew most of the scorn in a 7-9 season, New England’s front seven was subpar, too.

The additions of Judon and Van Noy, coupled with the flashes Josh Uche showed this spring may have transformed edge rusher from a weakness to a strength in one offseason.

And of course, Dont’a Hightower’s return could be a game-changer.

If Newton isn’t getting the job done and Jones looks ready, expect Belichick to give the ball to the quarterback that gives them the best chance to win.

The title has been vacant since Brian Flores departed after the 2018 Super Bowl win over the Rams and Belichick has never gone three seasons without a defensive coordinator in New England.

Patricia is back, but Belichick’s son Steve certainly seems like the next man up.
