Dating back to 2018, Mundelein has consistently seen approximately $8 million in total sales tax revenue, according to budget documents.
As part of the property tax levy discussion last year, village trustees considered potential uses for recreational cannabis-related revenue.
Currently, the village is using the money from cannabis taxes to help fund general operations due to the pandemic, Haywood said.
Recreational cannabis has become a significant financial player statewide as well — after small quantity purchase, possession and consumption became legal as of Jan.
Overall, the village’s FY22 budget calls for about $57.5 in expenditures and about $52.4 million in revenue, Haywood said.
If this upcoming year’s estimates hold, it will represent about a 9.6% decrease from last year.
In response to the pandemic last year, the village made several cuts, including to staff overtime and delaying the purchase of new vehicles by a year.
