The federal electoral boundaries commission of B.C.

a total of 43 seats in Parliament, still short of equal representation, according to Mike McDonald, chief strategy officer with the consulting firm Kirk & Co.

The report proposes splitting Kelowna into two ridings, for example, Kelowna, and Okanagan Lake West-South Kelowna.

McDonald said that one of the more significant changes in the Lower Mainland was in the southeast corner of Vancouver where a new riding, Vancouver Fraserview-South Burnaby, could put NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh into competition with Liberal Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan.

On Vancouver Island, the proposed changes split Courtenay in two, despite vocal opposition to the approach.
