Local musicians, they’re just like us: embarrassed by their Spotify Wrapped lists

Kingston’s Sarah Perrotta, who just released a new album, “Blue to Gold,” was a wee bit embarrased to see her Spotify Wrapped list.

Baron, who also played keyboards on “BRIGHTSIDE” and has worked with Lenny Kravitz and Shania Twain, added, “You think, OK, it’s a little bit vain.

In another Spotify twist, Baron ranked number three on Perrotta’s personalized list of top artists for 2021, which the streaming service shares with subscribers on their year-end Wrapped list.

But this streaming service’s reach is undeniable — more than 70 million songs, with 381 million users, including 172 million subscribers across 184 markets.

In the Hudson Valley music community, which includes numerous notable names, the stakes can be high when Spotify is used as a career tool.

Falco is regularly playing music from his Spotify account at The Falcon, the family-owned music venue and restaurant he runs in Marlboro.

Perrotta believes she found Josephine Oniyama and Evripidis and His Tragedies — two surprises — by way of Spotify genres, and that reflects her adventurous spirit in discovering new music.

Additional 2021 musical characteristics that found their way to Perrotta through Spotify were “ecstatic” and “wistful.” She couldn’t recall where on the streaming service she read this about herself in relation to her Wrapped list.

Woodstock musician Simi Stone, who in addition to her own career, has performed with Natalie Merchant and David Byrne of Talking Heads fame, is an outlier when it comes to the Spotify universe.
