Jim Belushi on ‘Growing Belushi,’ his Oregon cannabis farm, and marijuana as ‘spiritual medicine’

“I love waking up in Oregon,” Jim Belushi says, on a recent morning.

Belushi is fresh off an interview with the “Today” show, which required him to be up early to accommodate the program’s Eastern Time zone schedule.

Since beginning to grow marijuana plants in 2015, Belushi has expanded the size of his property, located on the Rogue River.

So does Guy Fieri, star of such Discovery Channel hits as “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” Fieri stops at Belushi’s Farm for a visit that involves some cannabis-infused ice cream.

The guest appearance on “Growing Belushi” came about because Fieri was doing a show, Belushi says, and driving from Washington state to Santa Rosa, California.

“I’m really trying to build confidence in cannabis by showing how it’s grown,” says Belushi.

“There’s a lot of information and education in there for the Discovery audience,” Belushi says.

While Belushi continues to act, in such projects as “Twin Peaks: The Return,” and the upcoming feature, “Evolution of Nate Gibson,” he says he’s now an Oregon resident.

“Chris and I load up the Ford Explorer with cannabis, and drive it to Portland,” he says.

“There are veterans that come in, and they had spasms in their legs, and they say a strain of mine stops the spasms.” He says he’s also heard about people who were prescribed opioids for pain, but were able to stop using them after finding relief by using cannabis.

Everybody knows somebody that’s suffering from something, and maybe they’re reaching for the Ambien, the Xanax, or the hard liquor.
