In the 91st minute, a Larrys Mabiala cross found the head of Ebobisse, who drove the ball into goal and pulled the Timbers back from the brink of defeat after going down by two goals in the first half.
With the result, the Timbers in the Western Conference standings.
The Dynamo gained an early lead in the 15th minute, scoring off the rebound after a Maxi Urruti strike.
Picault won the ball after pressure forced a bad pass from defender Bill Tuiloma in the Timbers’ own end, and quick passes found Pasher in the middle of the box.
The Timbers pulled one back in the 51st minute.
The Dynamo haven’t played well on the road this year, but have been stronger at home in Houston, which is historically a difficult trip for the Timbers.
As part of that squad rotation, usual starters Diego Chara, Diego Valeri and Josecarlos Van Rankin all moved to the bench as substitutes.
“We’ve come to the realization that late goals shouldn’t be a characteristic of our team and they cost us too many points and, frankly, cost us the end of our year as well,” Ebobisse said.
The Slovenian goalkeeper made two appearances during the 2020 regular season, but was sidelined to start 2021 after a sports hernia surgery.
Saturday was the Timbers’ return from a nearly three-week break, enough time to see several players return from injuries, including Clark, Ivacic, Chara, Mabiala and Sebastian Blanco.
For the Timbers, the man to watch in Houston was a familiar face: Maxi Urruti, who won an MLS Cup with the Timbers in 2015 before a series of moves brought him to the Dynamo this year.
The Dynamo have found the most success this season as a transitional team, and have had the lowest possession in MLS on average, hovering around 40%.
