Don’t be cruel: This West Peoria pub’s popular bar-top mascot has gone missing

A bust of Elvis Presley, the long-time bar-top mascot of Jimmy’s Bar, was stolen Sunday night.

Jimmy Spears, owner of the saloon for 39 years, couldn’t help but chuckle over the ridiculousness of The King’s kidnapping.

The bust is the only nod to Presley — “I’m not some big Elvis fan,” Spears said — and arrived as something of a joke.

Two decades ago, as a gag gift for a relative, Spears bought a schlocky velvet Elvis painting, which to this day continues to circulate among family as a white elephant gift.

But a handy regular took the bust home, applied a little glue and paint, and restored The King to his regal good looks, thankyaverymuch.

Security cameras gave no clues as to the vanishing.

Despite the modest reward fund contributed by clientele, Spears remained ever the optimist, hoping The King might come back by Saturday.
