Damian Lillard, Draymond Green commit to Team USA for Olympics

Lillard, who turns 31 on July 15, will be playing in his first Olympics after dropping out of consideration for the 2016 Rio Games, where the U.S.

Training camp begins July 6 in Las Vegas with coach Gregg Popovich, with rosters expected to be set by late June.

Green averaged seven points, 8.9 assists and 7.1 rebounds this season, as the Warriors lost two games in the Play-in Tournament to miss the playoffs.

Anthony Slater, Warriors beat writer: It adds to a resume at all basketball levels — high school, college, NBA, international — that should one day get Green in the Hall of Fame.

It’s possible, because of the shakier circumstances surrounding these Olympics, there won’t be as much talent on the roster and Green will play a bigger role.

The Blazers reached the playoffs each of the last two seasons, which meant an even shorter offseason for Lillard than, say, Green, whose Warriors missed the last two playoffs.

Tatum suffered a sprained ankle in that tournament, which he and the Americans believe was the difference between their seventh-place finish at the World Cup, and a championship.
