D.J. Augustin makes perfect sense for the Nets on the buyout market – New York Daily News

The Houston Rockets recently waived Augustin, a 13-year veteran, to help facilitate their trade for Celtics guard Dennis Schroder.

Augustin makes sense on several fronts.

The NBA is about relationships, and Durant and Augustin have a strong one.

Unvaccinated star guard Kyrie Irving is ineligible to play in home games due to New York City’s vaccine mandate and is not planning to change his vaccination status to play basketball at Barclays Center.

Augustin is also a career 38% three-point shooter and shot 40.6% from downtown with the rebuilding Rockets this season.

The Nets acquired Carter in the Landry Shamet trade during the offseason, but aside from fairly recent performances on a depleted roster, Carter has been a non-factor on this Nets team .

Augustin brings a veteran presence, a familiar face, additional spacing and back court support for a Nets team looking to plug all the holes Hurricane Harden left in the ship’s deck.
