Council decides to wait for Leamington ruling before tackling backyard cannabis odours

The councillor for the area, Ward 8’s Gary Kaschak, had asked for a report on the matter after fielding complaints from neighbours and checking out the grow op himself.

While federal laws now allow people to grow up to four plants for recreational purposes, the big problems appear to arise when people acquire Health Canada licences to grow many more additional plants for medical reasons.

Leamington’s bylaw, which is meant to regulate the odors coming from commercial cannabis operations in greenhouses, is believed to be the first bylaw of its kind to be challenged in the courts.
