CDC Quinte looks to continue Good Food Market program | Belleville Intelligencer

“With this grant, we have been delivering fresh produce to rural areas in Hastings and Prince Edward County which are classified as food deserts.

After a $523,000 Grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2019, the Good Food Market Program’s objective was to implement 22 travelling markets in rural areas of Hastings and Prince Edward County.

Since 1989 their overarching goal has been to be a recognizable and visible presence in the community that identifies urgent and emerging social issues, while providing programs and services that positively impact the quality of life and health of individuals.

According to proof.utoronto.ca more than 13 per cent of those living in Ontario have experienced food insecurity between 2017 to 2018.

“We know that people are using the program, they are saying that it’s saving them money – a $10 bag is worth more than $25 in some rural areas,” said Ingersoll.
