Canucks: Coach Green taking high road amid contract extension uncertainty

The Vancouver Canucks’ coach could have taken the bait and joined continuing speculation about his future.

“From the first day I got here, I wanted to coach this team through the rebuild and get to a spot where I thought we were getting some good young pieces and had a bright future.

Every year you coach, you have an opportunity to improve and over the years in Vancouver, I have improved and become a better coach every season — and this year is no different.

Despite 10 playoff newbies in the club’s first appearance in five years, the Canucks won a qualifying-round series with Minnesota.

The drills were about making sure we simplified our defensive system and that everybody knew what was expected of them.

However, there are coaching openings in Arizona, Columbus, Seattle, and there could be others.

Green, a former Ducks centre, did get a serious look to become coach of the Ducks, who opted to bring Randy Carlyle back for a second time to replace the fired Bruce Boudreau on June 14, 2016.

“I’m very surprised he’s not signed,” said Ferraro.
