CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns defensive coordinator Joe Woods has seen what a dominant defensive line can do for a team.
“We want to be able to affect protections,” Woods said.
When you are playing defensive end, you can get chipped from running backs, you can get chipped from tight ends and help that way — inside, it is usually with a center or guard, but if the slide is going the other way, they can run stunts off of it, they can do three-man games.
If Bitonio’s answer has your head spinning, well, that’s the point.
At the next level of the defense, Woods has another new and exciting chess piece to use in rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
The Browns, of course, moved up to take him and Woods believes they ended up getting two first-rounders in Greg Newsome II at No.
“Both Greg and JOK, those guys are very smart players, and they are very competitive players,” Woods said.
Speaking of Newsome, Woods said he believes the rookie can play inside if they need him to this season.
“You are always trying to put yourself in a position where you have favorable matchups,” Woods said.
