B.C. Climate News: Europe experienced second-warmest winter on record – Vancouver Sun

That was a quote from a Canadian Security Intelligence Service report made public this week, detailing the threat climate change poses to Canada.

The panel has issued a “code red” for humanity and last year it said the window to stop global warming from exceeding 1.5 C was closing.

An updated framework to protect marine life in the regions outside national boundary waters, known as the high seas, had been in discussions for more than 20 years, but previous efforts to reach an agreement had repeatedly stalled.

The Responsible Use Plastic Coalition, which includes Dow Chemical Canada, Imperial Oil, and Nova Chemicals, contends that federal jurisdiction over toxic substances is narrow and that waste management is up to the provinces.

B.C.-based firm Ecojustice is intervening in the case on behalf of Environmental Defence and Oceana Canada, while the province of Alberta is intervening for the coalition.
