Generally speaking, stock values move up and down based on changes in future earnings or changing investor attitudes towards the market, or market factors affecting the market.
Last year, stock price values in general rose in large part because of the increase in profits many companies forecast and subsequently experienced.
Though profits will come in good again this year, their large positive rate of change will be comparatively less than last year.
This may prove a tougher feat to achieve, at least for many of the stocks that have little or no earnings to speak of.
