Portugal Builds Giant Suspension Bridge AROUCA, PORTUGAL – JANUARY 14: A view of the ‘516 Arouca’, considered the largest suspension pedestrian bridge in the world at 516 meters long and 175 meters high, as it hangs above the imposing Aguieiras Waterfall in the Paiva Gorge and Paiva River that runs through it on January 14, 2021 in Arouca, Portugal.
The span hangs 574 feet above the Aguieiras Waterfall in the Paiva Gorge in Arouca, Portugal, and takes about 10 minutes to cross.
516 Arouca breaks the record for the longest pedestrian suspension bridge, previously held by the Charles Kuonen Bridge at Randa, in the Swiss Alps.
“The new bridge, under construction since May 2018, is inspired by the Inca bridges that spanned the Andes mountain valleys,” a release on the bridge’s website reads.
