Green Lantern, the upcoming series that will bring the full breadth of the Green Lantern Corps to the small screen for the first time, has found its first recruit.
According to the show’s official character description, Guy is a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism.
Guy has a long and storied history as a member of the Green Lantern Corps as well as a DC comic book character.
Originally introduced as the second choice by Abin Sur’s ring after his death, Guy’s larger-than-life persona came about in the 1980s, when the original pretty vanilla character was given a hyper-macho reinvention—a personality that still endures today.
Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta.
Fans of the series likely recognize that as a homage to the Campbell-illustrated cover for Naomi #1, the bestselling comic that introduced Naomi to the world.
The series is executive produced by Ava DuVernay, Jill Blankenship, Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes, and produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros.
The third season of HBO Max’s Titans will see Dick Grayson and his team of heroes make their way to Gotham City where they’ll tangle with one of Batman’s most terrifying foes – the Scarecrow.
Scarecrow will mark Kartheiser’s first role as a comic book character, though the actor has a long career in film and TV that includes noteworthy roles in genre favorites like Angel, The OA and Das Boot.
