Coronavirus: Global COVID-19 death toll tops 5 million – Boston 25 News

EDT Monday, the global death tally was 5,000,425, including 745,836 in the United States – more than any other country, the university reported.

The news came as the rate of new coronavirus deaths appeared to be rising globally and declining domestically, according to The New York Times.

As for case count, the world averaged just over 432,000 new infections per day – an increase of 7% in the past two weeks, the newspaper reported.

Also on Sunday, Oxford University’s Our World in Data project reported that so far, 49.4% of the global population has received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, compared with just 3.6% of the population in low-income countries.
