Ryan Cajimat, 21, of Kapolei, was charged with interference with flight crew members and attendants and assault within a special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, according to a news release from the U.S.
He also was fined $52,500 by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to a Department of Justice news release.
Prosecutors said that about two hours before the aircraft arrived in Seattle, Cajimat tried to open the cockpit door, the news release stated.
Cajimat was restrained for the remainder of the flight and was removed from the plane when it arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, KIRO reported.
Interference is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the Department of Justice.
