New Mexico man accused of abuse after girlfriend’s child gives note to bus driver

LAS CRUCES, N.M.

Erik Alvarado, 40, of Las Cruces, was arrested on suspicion of three felony counts of aggravated battery against a household member — two for suffocation and one for strangulation — KRQE reported.

Alvarado is accused of battering the woman, strangling her, and twice suffocating her with a pillow and a shirt, the Las Cruces Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The bus driver called 911 after receiving the note on Friday morning, according to KRQE.

According to police, much of the alleged abuse occurred in the presence of the couple’s toddler and their two school-age children.
