HOUSTON — Jonathan Loaisiga was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday.
They had an outbreak of breakthrough cases back in May, which ended up with one player, Gleyber Torres, three coaches and several members of the traveling support team testing positive.
It’s a tough blow for the Yankees, who have been using Loaisiga in high-leverage situations, like closing in Friday night’s 4-0 win over the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
“My sense is it’ll be close to that kind of 10-day range,” Boone said of Andujar’s time on the IL.
The Yankees outfielder, who left the June 30 loss to the Angels in the second inning with dizziness, has still not been officially diagnosed with the underlying cause, but they have ruled out vertigo.
“I know they’re working through some vision things with neurological ophthalmologists and kind of checking his contacts and his fitting for glasses and things like that.
After being named the starting left fielder last winter, he was hitting .186/.317/.317 with a 77 OPS+.
He twice lost his starting job this season.
