Cannabis Control Board hits the ground running

The picture of what the state’s budding cannabis industry will look like is coming into sharper focus by the day now that the newly appointed Vermont Cannabis Control Board is meeting on a regular basis.

The former deputy states attorney is working alongside Julie Hulburd, the HR director at VSAC, and the Agency of Agriculture’s Kyle Harris.

The board has seven priorities — promoting small cultivators; preserving medical marijuana; advancing social equity; and preserving energy and the environment.

“We want a product that Vermonters have access to that’s high quality, it’s been tested, it’s in childproof packaging,” Pepper said.

They’re also looking to how other states set their markets up while trying to avoid their pitfalls.

Cannabis advocates who have pushed for racial, agricultural, and financial equity say they’re heartened by the board’s performance so far.
