‘America’s Got Talent’ features another Portland singer, and Pink Martini veteran, on Tuesday’s show

The hit summertime show, “America’s Got Talent,” casts a wide net when it comes to showcasing entertainers, with a variety-show format that includes everything from dancers to dog acts.

In a phone interview, Herrod jokingly says he’s waiting to find out if there’s a third singer from Pink Martini who will turn up on “America’s Got Talent” Season 16.

Herrod grew up in Tacoma, and earned a bachelor’s degree in music composition and performance from Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts, and a Master’s degree in jazz studies from Portland State University.

“In the past, I’ve done auditions for other shows,” Herrod says.

Herrod decided to audition for “America’s Got Talent,” he says, “because a show as big as ‘America’s Got Talent’ provides a space for people of all ages, and all talents.

Having spent years in his youth watching “American Idol,” when Simon Cowell was one of that show’s judges, Herrod says it was quite an experience to see Cowell “in the flesh,” as an “America’s Got Talent” judge.
