NEW YORK – Don’t look now, but the Yankees are in the middle of a mini-hot streak, including Saturday’s impressive victory over Oakland.
Maybe it’s what Clint Frazier meant when he described the Yankees as having a “chip on our shoulders” after being written off by everyone, including you and me.
Under normal circumstances the announced gate of 23,985 would’ve been a disappointment, especially on a beautiful afternoon with one of the AL’s elite teams in town.
Still, let’s assume the Bombers regain their street cred and the casual fans join the Bleacher Creatures to turn the Stadium into an open-air asylum again.
But there were a number of significant signs of a Yankees rebirth, and not just the return of their home-field advantage.
Much has been said and written about the imbalance in the Bombers’ lineup – overloaded with single-minded sluggers who aim only for the planets.
Second on the list of surprises was Gary Sanchez, promoted to the No.
If Boone is right – and that’s an admitted leap of faith – that creates a number of lineup options that’ve so far been beyond the manager’s grasp.
Both have suffered through wild performance swings, so you’re forgiven for asking the same questions of both entities: which one is legit? Sanchez at least has the back of his baseball card as proof of a bona fide slugger lurking.
Oh, and Frazier dropped in this final nugget about the Yankees’ resurgence at the plate.
If ever there’s a time to find out what’s what and who’s who in the East, that will be it.
