How Bitcoin Has Fueled Ransomware Attacks

In the latest example, the world’s largest meat processor, JBS, announced Wednesday night that it recently paid $11 million in Bitcoin after a cyber attack forced the shutdown of its plants in the U.S., Canada and Australia.

“You see exactly the way the money moves from one address, and one wallet, to another,” said Striem-Amit of Cybereason.

But then comes the real mystery.

The FBI discourages ransom payments, and some companies do refuse to pay.

And there are insurers who are completely excluding health care, public sector and higher education,” all of which are frequent targets.
