At issue was Horgan’s push for legislation to allow brief, temporary detention of young victims of drug overdoses.
The bill was criticized by chief coroner Lisa Lapointe, children and youth representative Jennifer Charlesworth, First Nations leaders, and civil libertarians.
“Let’s not use this tragedy as cover for inadequate policy,” the Green MLA challenged during question period on Wednesday.
“For the Green party, perfection is always the enemy of progress,” said the premier, addressing Olsen.
The attack brought back memories for Olsen.
“I don’t think that anyone who’s using drugs as a youth is concerned about the debates in this legislature.
As for the Bill 22 makeover, he’s directed the responsible minister, Sheila Malcolmson, to consult again.
“Stabilization care is one of the tools that we want to have available as a last resort,” Malcolmson told the house on Thursday.
But given the pledge to consult, it also sounds as if the successor to Bill 22 won’t be tabled until the fall session of the legislature, starting Oct.
