While some may argue that Powell and others like her are simply following the leader, there is no doubt that their actions have had serious consequences for both themselves and the nation as a whole. As the United States faces increasing political polarization and division, it remains to be seen whether Trump’s promise to pardon “a large portion” of the Capitol rioters would only serve to further divide the country or bring about some form of reconciliation.
