95-year-old West Virginia man becomes oldest organ donor in US history

After his death, Lockhart’s liver was donated to a woman in her 60s, the Center for Organ Recovery & Education said in a news release.

According to the CORE news release, Lockhart’s family said he wanted to become an organ donor after his son, Stanley Lockhart, healed the lives of 75 people through tissue donation.

“ was a generous person when he was alive, and we are filled with pride and hope knowing that, even after a long, happy life, he is able to continue that legacy of generosity,” Lockhart’s daughter, Sharon White, said in a statement on the CORE website.

He was the owner of Lockhart Coal Company, Southern Coal Company and C&H Trucking Company, according to his obituary.

According to CORE, someone is added to the national transplant waiting list every 10 minutes, People reported.
